Cloud License Management
Cloud License Management released the following feature in July 2025.
Visibility and management of SQL Server BYOL software on customer-managed AWS EC2 instances
This feature is available with Cloud License Management.
In customer-managed AWS environments, Bring Your Own License (BYOL) software is often deployed using custom Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) on EC2 virtual machines. Because these instances are fully managed by the customer, AWS lacks visibility into the software installed or running within them. This limitation creates challenges in accurately tracking license consumption and ensuring compliance.
To address this visibility gap and establish a complete license position, Cloud License Management now supports visibility and management of SQL Server BYOL software deployed on customer-managed Amazon EC2 instances. This is enabled through the Flexera inventory agent, which collects software evidence from these environments.
To take advantage of this new feature, users must deploy the Flexera inventory agent on all customer-managed EC2 instances running BYOL software. The Flexera inventory agent discovers installed commercial software and plays a critical role in extending visibility into self-managed cloud environments.
Software evidence collected by the Flexera inventory agent is automatically ingested into Flexera One IT Asset Management and seamlessly integrated with Flexera One Cloud License Management. This integration enables:
-
Discovery of commercial software deployed on customer-managed EC2 BYOL instances
-
Accurate license reconciliation for supported software products
-
Cost-efficient BYOL license position calculation based on actual virtual machine usage within Cloud License Management
By enabling automated discovery and license tracking, this feature delivers a comprehensive, accurate, and actionable view of BYOL software usage across customer-managed environments in the public cloud.

Accurate IBM licensing where duplicate device records exist
This enhancement is available with IT Asset Management.
This enhancement ensures greater accuracy and reliability to our IBM license reconciliation process in environments where duplicate device records exist in the inventory database.
In some customer environments, devices with duplicate \{\{FNMPComputerUID\}\}s have led to inconsistencies, where a device appears linked to a license on its inventory page, but the corresponding consumption is not reflected in the license’s Consumption tab. This enhancement addresses that scenario by extending Smart Computer Deduplication capabilities to intelligently handle such duplicates.
With this update, IT Asset Management now more effectively reconciles PVU licenses even when duplicate identifiers are present, ensuring that license consumption data is both complete and consistent across all views.
What's improved:
-
Enhanced handling of duplicate
\{\{FNMPComputerUID\}\}sin the Compliance database -
More accurate license consumption reporting for IBM PVU licenses
-
Extended Computer Deduplication logic to support complex inventory scenarios.

The Rule-Based Dimensions page (Cloud > Administration > Rule-Based Dimensions) has been enhanced to provide you with an improved user experience. You will now see a number of subtle improvements and optimizations to the workflow related to creating rule-based dimensions:
-
New rule highlighting—When you create a new rule, the system now automatically scrolls the page to the newly created rule and highlights it. Previously, you had to manually locate the rule within the rules list.
-
Option to add a new rule after an existing rule—You can now add a new rule immediately after an existing rule by clicking the three-dots icon next to the rule and selecting the Create New Rule After option. Or, by selecting the checkbox next to the rule, and clicking the Create new rule after option that appears in the upper-left corner of the page. This enhancement enables you to add a rule directly after the selected rule, improving workflow efficiency. Previously, you could only add a new rule by clicking the Create New Rule button which added the rule to the end of the rules list.
-
Multi-selection for dimensions—Managed Service Providers (MSPs) can now select multiple values from the dropdown list for the following dimensions: Cloud Vendor Account, Billing Account ID, Bill Source, and Customer Tenant ID. This enhancement enables MSPs to create a rule with multiple values at once. Previously, MSPs could only enter a value for the dimension.
