Creating Groups of Inventory Targets
The information provided in this topic is specific to IT Visibility and does not apply to IT Asset Management.
A group represents a group of inventory targets that you will be able to assign to a beacon and specify the way the inventory targets need to be targeted (by IP only, by name only, or by name falling back to IP address). A group can be assigned to one beacon only. (Of course, a beacon can have multiple groups assigned, and an inventory target can be a member of multiple groups.) If you have been using FlexNet Manager, a group is essentially the same as a target in FlexNet Manager.
To create a group click on Create Group button on Groups page and follow the create wizard.
On the second page of the wizard you can add inventory targets to the group by selecting the inventory targets. When you filter results on this page, hidden but previously selected inventory targets remain selected. Notification above the section tells how many inventory targets have been selected to be added to this group.
You can create a group without any inventory targets in it if you need but, to make sure any tasks assigned to this group are executed, you will need to add inventory targets later.
Likewise, it is acceptable not to link a beacon to the group, but you will need to do it later.
You can always edit groups at a later stage from Groups page. Note that when you edit a group, you can add previously created inventory targets to the group, on the Targets tab, by switching between showing inventory targets linked to the group and showing all inventory targets.
